Wanderlust.....Not in My Vocabulary

Wanderlust: is a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world.

I’m really not a true wanderlust. Going backpacking in Europe or camping in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains is something I can honestly say makes me want to lock myself in my house and shake in fear. It was only up until the last couple of years that I have been truly enjoying the outdoors and opening up my narrow mind of how beautiful it is where we live. I have come to appreciate all of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer and have actually been the one to initiate a day hike or trail walk with my two boys. After my experience of hiking in Arizona, my interest sparked to explore more of what nature has to offer.

Today our exploring time took us close to Snoqualmie Pass, follow Denny Creek and find our final destination of Franklin Falls.

Right off of exit 47 on I-90 east, you will drive about 2 miles and come to the bridge entrance onto the trail.
Remember to bring $5 dollars for parking and keep in mind that if you have the discovery pass it does not work for this parking! I found that out once we got there so we had to write an old fashion check.

This hike is so perfect for younger children! It is very even with a few flights of steps along the way; the hike itself is about 1 mile one way which makes it realistic for young kids and those adventurous seniors. If you have fur babies (dogs) you can definitely bring them on your walk while they are on a leash.

There are a handful spots along the way to take in the scenery of the creek. Once you get to the falls, it is BREAKTAKING and MASSIVE. And I say massive because Donovan completely lost it and cried and cried once we got there. I guess for a 3 year old it CAN look a bit intimidating.
Not a happy camper once we go there
This was after he cried

The falls were extremely loud and very strong due to the snow melting making its way down the mountain. Usually by the middle of summer or August is when the falls are a little less savage and it is even compatible to go swimming at the bottom!

Donovan calmed down once he was able to throw rocks

Now that I have Saturdays off, Tony and I have plans to do more hikes to see the beautiful sites of the PNW. What hikes have you all been on that you recommend?

  1. Awwww, poor little guy! I'm sure it was overwhelming at first! And I totally get what you mean - the PNW is just way too gorgeous to not get out and explore! Have you been to Snoqualmie Falls? That's an easy drive and the waterfall there is beautiful. You can also eat some cherry pie at Twede's Cafe (if you're a Twin Peaks fan). I also love Rattlesnake Ridge. The hike is easy but the view is incredible!
