Priorities Beginning in October
OCTOBER IS UPON US!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE October. Not only
is it the month that I ended as a miserable pregnant woman and gave
birth to Donovan (Oct 18th), but it also the month that the season
really starts to change, cozied up with scarves, boots and pumpkin flavored
everything!
Tony and I are extremely busy people. In our jobs,
spending time with our friends and family, doing tons of activities with
Donovan and keeping our household running smoothly that lately, we have not
been making a priority for just focusing on us as a couple….and it shows. The “I
love you’s” are quickly said when walking out the door in passing, we argue
over the tiniest situations that turn into feeling attacked and not validated
and we find ourselves taking each other for granted and “expecting” instead of “appreciating”.
We knew we needed to reconnect. So we hired a
babysitter and spend some time together. Over the weekend, this took us to our
beloved city of Seattle. We needed to finalize some details for Donovan’s
birthday party (this will be held at an amazing place at Pike Market and I
CANNOT WAIT to tell you guys all about and reveal where we will have it) so we
began our date night there that also included a glass of champagne. We found
ourselves laughing and engaging in conversation that did NOT included Donovan-
I mean, let’s be honest, how many of you go on date night and end up talking
about your kids? Why wouldn’t you, they are our everything?! That’s who we always talk about! But Saturday night, we asked each other about our goals, how we are doing and what makes us happy, which gave us a way to get to know each other once again.
We then made our way down to the Market and how amazing
the weather was! Beautiful sun during the “golden hour” and as the market began
closing down, we just walked and talked as if we were on a first date
ourselves.
We decided to grab a drink at Rachel’s Ginger Beer
located right next to the infamous Post Alley Sign at Pike Place Market.
I
first found out about Rachel’s during Sunset Supper (read about it here) that
the market had hosted, and I have continued to have dreams about it since then!
They have many different ginger beers on tap that hold delicious flavors and will
spike up any beer with your liquor of choice! Mine was vodka and white peach
Rachel’s Ginger Beer and Tony’s was whiskey and original Rachel’s Ginger Beer. STOP BY next time you are strolling in Post Alley!
Afterwards, we ventured up to Madrona, a Seattle
neighborhood and holds beautiful houses, cute restaurants and gorgeous views of the
Cascades and Lake Washington. The Bottlehouse was a place that I was DYING to
visit after coming upon it while going through Yelp.
As we approached the charming
porch of this little restaurant, we immediately had a sense that we came across
a “secret”, unknown place to drink extremely good wine and divulge in Tappas
inspired dishes. However, the Bottlehouse holds an amazing reputation in the
Madrona area and serves as an excellent adult spot for girl time and date
night! I was extremely engaged by the fact that they took a house and remade it
into a charming place for wine tasting and cheese. The serves is
phenomenal and all of them are extremely well known in their wines and cheese pairings.
I can genuinely say that Tony and I just laughed and enjoyed
each other’s company. We rekindled the spark that had brought us together 12
years ago and while talking throughout our dinner, we have made commitments to
us and our marriage to make it a priority for a date night once a month and schedule a time during the week to have a drink or appetizers at one of our local restaurants once a week to
just be a couple.
Have a great week you guys! October is already looking to
be an amazing month!
XOXOX
