Let’s Take a Moment to Unplug
Hands up if you find
yourself picking up your phone every 20 minutes? How about every 10? How about
every 5 minutes? If you are an 80s baby like myself, you probably spent time in
chat rooms with dial up internet that took 5-8 minutes to hook up and then once
you reached college age, you had a MySpace account that played your favorite
song of the week anytime someone visited your page. Facebook was only a mere
social media holder that gradually grew as a tool to spy on your ex’s OR your
ex’s new girlfriend or boyfriend (let’s be honest, we have all done it). How
fascinating to me, that social media has become such an amazing tool through
Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc, to help aid the growth of our interests and
our networking. This can be an amazing tool while, without balance, can be a
distraction from what is going on around us.
I have realized over this
last weekend of those little moments with my son that shows me how smart and
funny he is, the opportunity to grow relationships through conversation, and
moments to strengthen my intimacy with my husband can be easily put on the back
burner due to my distraction of my social media accounts. So it was such an eye
opener and amazing experience to coincidently not have service during our
camping trip with just the 3 of us at Sunlakes Resort in Eastern Washington.
During this “unplugged”
time, we laughed, we ate, we jumped off of decks into the lake, we talked, we
built a camp site together, we played miniature golf, we ate ice cream, and we
just were “being together”.
The best part of our trip!
Sunlakes Resort is such a
perfect spot for families, and caters to all of those “camper” type needs. There
are lakeside cabins to rent, RV hook ups and perfect spots for tents. The three
of us shared a little tent that was just so perfect for us to listen to the
night sounds and look at the stars while we fell asleep. Just a short three to three and a half hour drive and you will arrive to the resort where I right away, changed into my bathing suit and dragged (well, Tony dragged) my floaty to the lake so I can float around on the lake.
This is my heaven!
Our resources make it SO
EASY for us to be distracted and to pick up our phones a lot. I just valued and
enjoyed every moment with my boys during our camping trip and I just want to challenge
you just to take a moment to “unplug” and just be. You do not want to miss out
on those important relationships in your lives!
Have a great work week
everyone! 3 day weekend is coming up soon!
XOXOXO
Tiff
