Self-Care
As a mom, I am dedicated to spending time with Donovan, to raising him, to making sure he stays alive, to protecting him, to teaching him and to building his confidence and self-love. As a wife, I am dedicated to dating Tony, texting and communicating with him throughout the day, making food for him, doing his laundry, showing compassion and understanding, asking for his forgiveness when I am too assertive with him, and loving him.
Yes, I dedicate those to Donovan and Tony, but I will proudly say and 100% believe that I will not dedicate 150% of me all to them. Because there is someone else that should take part in my dedication. Someone who deserves my attention more so than anyone else. Someone who I love and respect and have all the confidence in the world in. That someone is ME!
“You are THE BEST version of yourself, when you take care of yourself that will blossom into love and confidence”. That in turn will be THE BEST version of you as a mom, wife, sister, daughter, etc…
I am a TRUE TRUE believer that even through working a full time job, doing chores and grocery shopping to keep the family moving, that EVERY woman needs to fulfill her self worth through her passions and do things that make her feel beautiful, confident, and ready to tackle this world. If that means taking a couple of hours here and there to yourself, than that’s what you must do!
I struggled a lot of feeling selfish that I would miss out on an evening with my boys or that I would take an hour to myself to go shopping, however, it has been these last couple of years that I have come to this realization that I am worth spending time with! And in turn, I feel amazing. I feel like I am raising my son to be smart, funny, independent, and to love. I feel like I continue to keep Tony’s pride in me as his wife by taking care of my body and living a healthy lifestyle that will keep me sprightly and energetic and hopefully live a longer life.
Here is what I do on a weekly basis to keep myself happy and sane:
- I workout 5 days a week at the gym. Yes, this is a HUGE commitment, but taking an hour out of the day to lift, cardio or take a class that helps me keep my sanity in check and my energy going.
- I get my eyelashes done with eye lash extensions! This is one of those things that I really splurge on because it makes me feel pretty and confident….and you know what? there is nothing wrong with that!
- I schedule Happy Hours, dinner or movies with my girlfriends. Female friends are so important and I have so many that I am extremely lucky to call as friends. There is a level of comradeship that keeps anyone feeling loved and wanted.
- I recently have taken up my passion of photography and blogging. I LOVE LOVE meeting new people and taking their pictures. I have found a new found self-love through this and it has been amazing! I am learning, meeting new people and finding that I have some sort of “talent” in this photography world.
I am extremely lucky to have an amazing husband who supports me because he understands too, that I will be the best for him if I am taking care of myself.
I will end with this: it is not a selfish desire if you are wanting to create, if you are wanting to do something that makes you smile, if you are taking time to get your hair done, your nails done, or even your eyelashes done. YOU WILL BE YOUR BEST VERSION OF YOU through self-care and loving yourself!
