Milestones (a Love Story…Well Sort Of)

Milestone #1: I graduated from high school in 2003 (GAWD I am getting old!), packed up my parents van, and ventured to Seattle from the small town of Athena Oregon that contained 1,200 people to a large city that contains 700 times more people!

Milestone #2: After boys that came and went in my life and without really knowing it, I met “the one” as he forced his way into my life on his longboard and eventually made his way into my heart. I hit another milestone when I realized that this man is the one I am going to marry. It took me about 9-10 months of dating him to realize this and it took Tony only about 5 minutes after meeting me.

Milestone #3: I graduated from college with my BA in Social Science!

Milestone #4: I was asked to marry this man at the Oregon Coast. Things did not go exactly as planned for him but I will always remember that he wanted to sit outside to watch the ocean and I grudgingly obliged even though it was windy and cold outside. He offered his sweatshirt and as I was popping my head out of the shirt, he was on one knee with the most beautiful ring and ask me to marry him. I asked if the ring was real and then said yes. I was SO HAPPY!

Milestone #5: A year later, we had the best day of my life…our wedding. This was THE MOST MEMORABLE experience/milestone of my entire life. The dancing, the drinking, the food, the friends and family…everything was PERFECT

Milestone #6: We bought our first house. About 4 years later and after saving our money, we put a down payment on our first house and to this day (5 years later), we are still enjoying our beautiful home.

Milestone #7: We announced we were pregnant. That was such an amazing and fun time for the both of us to be able to tell EVERYONE we were going to have a baby! Pregnancy was terrible and I hated everything about it…but that’s another story.

Milestone #8: We became parents. One minute you are newly weds and then 5 years later you are holding a tiny person in disbelief that you finally get to meet the little one who grew inside of you for 9 months. This milestone has been THE most meaningful, jaw breaking, eye opening one for Tony and I. I remember laying in the hospital bed as Tony picked up the tiny human that invaded our lives and the awe in his face saying, “I’m your dad, Donovan”. (So I am tearing up right now as I am writing this)

Milestone #9: Donovan started preschool, Donovan learned how to ride his bike, Donovan… Donovan…..Donovan. Pretty much our exciting experiences and new things have centered around Donovan. (Even when Donovan learned how to go to the bathroom himself but now thinks the entire world is his toilet….oh to be a boy).

Milestone #10: We did it…we hit our 10 year wedding anniversary. Through all of the laughs, arguments, brunches and dates, tears, enjoyment, love, listening, understanding, forgiveness…the list could on….we have hit a HUGE milestone in our marriage. 10 years is a long time, but I feel like it really has not been that long at all. Because as the saying goes and is very true, time goes by really fast when you’re having fun!

The next milestone? Maybe to FINALLY change my last maiden name to my married name? HMMMMMMMM……..

Happy Anniversary Tony!
